COURSE DESCRIPTION: Older job searchers face pre-conceived ideas, biases and perceptions in their job search that other populations have not had to overcome. This course helps to prepare the career professional to work with the older candidate. 


At the end of the course you will be able to:

  • Identify barriers that older workers face including: a) Appearance – Do I look old?; b) Health Issues – Real and perceived; c) Technology – How work gets done now; d) Over-qualified – What it really means; e) Motivation/commitment – Longevity and loyalty; f) Out of work too long – The gap; g) Slow Learner/Change averse – Ramping up; h) Limited Perception of Their Skill Set; i) Interviewing with “kids”; j) Dealing with Emotions – Feeling Betrayed
  • Define the benefits of age in today’s workplace
  • Recognize hidden age-related comments and effectively respond to age-related questions
  • List steps clients can take to prevent age-related biases, from first impression through decision-making
